I was fortunate enough to take a 7-day tour of Sri Lanka with Explore, one of our great suppliers. There were so many highlights over this time that it's best to breakdown the highlights, day by day.
Day 1
Cycling from Waikkala to Chilaw - enjoying views of the ocean and villages and market stalls.
Taking a jeep safari through Wilpattu National Park. We were lucky enough to spot a leopard, many elephants and deer before spending the night at the Big Game Safari Camp.
Day 2
Visiting the stunning ‘cultural triangle’, one of Sri Lanka’s UNESCO sites. This ancient city reached its height of glory in the 12th century and is known for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Sinhalese civilisation.
Staying at the amazing Heritance Kandalama.
Day 3
A very early start to climb Sigiriya to beat the crowds and the heat. The views from the top were simply stunning!
Day 4
Visiting Hill Country where the tea plantations stretch over rolling hills as far as the eye can see.
We stayed at Nuwara Eliya which known as Little England. Reminiscent of Britain with its red telephone boxes, Victorian colonial architecture and pretty rose gardens.
A very early start to climb Sigiriya to beat the crowds and the heat. The views from the top were simply stunning!
Day 5
Visited the Elephant Transit Home where orphaned elephants are cared for until they're old enough to be released back into the wild.
Day 6 & 7
Walking Tour of Galle.
Visiting the Galle International Cricket stadium where many great Sri Lankan and international players have played.
There is so much to love about Sri Lanka, and well worth the trip for anyone thinking of visiting this beautiful country.
