My time in the South Island of New Zealand can only be described as a whirlwind of fun and adventure. Escaping for 5 days, I was able to jam pack as much as I possibly could exploring Christchurch, Greymouth, Hokatika, Punakaki, Blenheim, Kaikoura and Hamner Springs.
“I highly recommend visiting ‘Amazonita’ for its great food, amazon inspired décor, open fire and comfy dining booths. ”
Some of the major highlights of my trip was seeing a sperm whale and a massive pod of dolphins on our whale watch cruise in Kaikoura. I also loved dining in Christchurch where there were plenty of incredible restaurants to choose from on Oxford Terrace near the Bridge of Remembrance. I highly recommend visiting ‘Amazonita’ for its great food, amazon inspired décor, open fire and comfy dining booths.
The Transalpine train journey was incredible. I had such a magnificent view of the stunning snowcapped mountains, streams, fields and quaint towns as we journeyed through.
My Top Tips for Anyone Thinking of Holidaying Here…
If you go to Kaikoura to do the whale watching – please be wary if you get sea sick. I highly advise taking travel sickness tablets (even if you don’t normally get sea sick) and I’d also suggest buying the honey and ginger sea sickness lozenges that they sell at the whale watch centre.
If you are choosing to do a self-drive car or motorhome trip, take your time. Don’t plan too long of a driving day getting between destinations so you can enjoy stopping into the smaller towns along the way.
If you’re thinking of doing a guided holiday - let us compare the cost of Kirra tour’s new platinum coaches for you. This is a fantastic option to get around.
I loved every minute of visiting the South Island on this trip to New Zealand and I would definitely come back to this magical part of the world again in a heartbeat.
